DES 135 Mock Album Covers

Shown here are a collection of mock album covers I designed in my DES 135: Design Fundamentals course. For this assignment we were given a music genre, a band title, and an album name, where we then had to design four different album covers that fit the aesthetic, mood, and prominent time period of the music genre. There was lots of preparation involved in making these covers, where I detailed different fonts, researched different established musical influences, and noted specific colours associated with the mood of the music. With this being my first design course, the result of this project was gaining basic skills and techniques involved in graphic design, and reflecting on how the steps of preparation taken to create these album covers could be something that I could apply to my own garment construction.

DES 135 Salt & Pepper Shakers

Another project from my DES 135: Design Fundamentals course, where in this assignment we were instructed to redesign the look of classic salt and pepper shakers into something new. We were instructed to look into the history of the design of old salt and pepper shakers, sketch a number of mock ideas, create a technical drawing, and finally a refined ideation. With the completion of this project, I again reflected on the amount of preparation taken and how it could be applicable to endeavours related to garment construction; in addition to this, having to reflect on the history of the salt and pepper shakers' design opened me up to the notion of researching history to create or do something new; a concept that is applicable in many different contexts.

Softball Team Logo Design

Shown here is a logo I did for the softball team for my job. I work at the Keg Steakhouse & Bar in Windermere, and every year all of the different Keg locations get together and host a softball tournament. The managers normally arrange logos and jerseys, however with my previous passing comments about taking a design course at university, I was asked if I would like to make the logo for the team. Upon brainstorming with colleagues, this was what I ended up coming up with, and it was printed on all of the jerseys for that year. Reflecting on the outcomes, this project made me feel secure in my design skills had previously learned; there had been some time passed between my design course and creating this, so I was hesitant to take on the challenge, however I am glad I did as I believe it turned out well. The reassurance of my abilities, as well as the positive reception the design received has led me to start thinking about how this form of design could be incorporated into my passion of garment construction, such as creating the logo for my business or creating graphics to be printed on clothing.
